Okra

Between the rainy days and the dry days it has been hard to think about putting anything in the ground because it has still been so wet.  So, yesterday and today we bit the bullet and planted.  Tomatoes, peppers, squash, and okra were on the top of the list to get planted and they did.   One unique method that we use when planting okra is the night before we plan on planting we soak the seeds in a paper towel and place them in a plastic freezer bag. This allows a few if not most of the seeds to sprout overnight and decreases germination time spent in the soil.  We then plant 1/2 inch deep with 1 foot between each plant and watch for them to poke through the earth.   Also, as strange as it may sound if you are longing for that smell of fresh okra open the bag of okra seeds that has been soaking overnight and before you plant smell.  Its like fresh picked okra from the garden.

My Day Today:

 This was today:
Woke up at 7:30 am and made coffee and turned on the lights for the plants. Breakfast was peanut butter toast followed by morning plant check up around the greenhouse.  Finally the glorious part of breakfast coffee.  This led to returning outside to set most of the plants outside of the greenhouse for some real vitamin D. Potting soil was low so I had to Run to town.  Getting back planting Parsley, Dill, Sage, and Cilantro was the next order of business totaling 120 all together. After shuffling some plants around for this weekends market everything went back into the greenhouse for the night and the hatches were battened down for the stormy weather. ( Also, watering and lunch was somewhere in there). Now tired and hungry again, I can still think of nothing more enjoyable and fulfilling that I'd rather be doing.
